Pumps
What is a Heat pump?
A heat pump is a new type of heating system that allows you to tap into a limitless supply of clean, pollution-free energy from the ground or air. This makes them very cost-effective heating solutions for all types of buildings, whether they be domestic or commercial properties.
Where Heat Pumps are used for heating, they are capable of producing highly efficient energy, and all you pay for is the energy to transport that heat around your home. Heat pumps are usually paired with an underfloor heating system for maximum efficiency.
How do they work?
As with many technologies that we use in every-day life, the basic principle of how a heat pump works is simple. All of our surroundings hold some heat. If thhis heat can be captured, it can be put to use as energy rather than be wasted.
The purpose of a heat pump is exactly this – to absorb heat in from place where it is plentiful, then to transport and release it in another location where it can be used for space or water heating.
Heat pumps can take heat from the air outdoors, or in the ground. Even when it’s cold outside, heat is still available underground or in the air, and this can be used to warm our homes and offices.
Air source
An Air Source Heat Pump works by extracting latent heat from the surrounding air and leveraging the principles of vapour compression to generate heat. It’s similar to how a refrigerator works, but done in reverse.
Ground source
In a Ground source Heat Pump, coils are laid underground below the frost line where it is constantly several degrees warmer. This heats is then circulated and used to warm a refrigerant and generate additional heat within the property.
Other renewables
Solar panels
Solar panels combined with solar water heating is a particularly effective way of heating domestic hot water, especially when used in combination with a heat pump for space heating. We can help specifcy a system to suit your needs.
biomass boilers
Biomass boilers are fuelled by wood in the form of logs, pellets or wood chips. They tend to take up a little more space than their gas or oil counterparts, but can be a great eco-friendly heating solution for many properties, particuarly those not connected to mains gas.
Domestic & commercial work undertaken
We have experience working on projects of all sizes, from supporting housing authorities to maintain their housing stock to building projects involving multiple units, self builds and refurbishments, we provide design and installation of plumbing and heating systems.
We also provide annual service & maintenance contracts covering commercial boilers, warm air heaters and air conditioning units.
