What is Solar Water Heating?
Many people know that solar panels can provide electricity generation using the power of the sun. However, not as many people know that solar panels can also be used to effectively heat your home too.
A Solar Hot Water System is designed to convert sunlight into heat that can be used for either space heating, domestic hot water or both, often in combination with a backup boiler or underfloor heating.
From installation to maintenance
A solar hot water system will usually provide a base level of warm water. However, they should not be used in isolation. A supplementary heating source will be needed for a home to provide warm water for the heating system, particularly in winter.

How it works
A solar heating system works by pumping a fluid around a coil inside your hot water storage tank. This heat exchanger directly transfers the heat generated from the sun to your hot water system, where it can be used directly or boosted by an emersion heater or your boiler.
What is it used for?
Solar Water Heating is a great eco-friendly solution on it’s own, or in conbination with solar panels used to genertate electricity. It is particularly effective for heating swimming pools or for heating domestic hot water, especially when GSHP’s are used for space heating.

Biomass boilers
Biomass boilers are fuelled by wood in the form of logs, pellets or wood chips. They tend to take up a little more space than their gas or oil counterparts, but can be a great eco-friendly heating solution for many properties, particuarly those not connected to mains gas.
